Hello,
I have a 14 yr. old talented student who I began teaching last year as a transfer. I put her in Celebration Series level 6 which she has done well with but in comparison with what she was playing before coming to me, it's more challenging.
Anyway, this fall I'd like to include the Connections as a supplement, but I'm not sure if I should use book 6 to directly line up with where she is in CS, or back up to book 5. Book 5 may be a bit easy for this girl to "read" note-wise, but rhythmically it will challenge her. She's never encountered much of these contemporary rhythms and styles before. Book 6 would be a lot more rhythmically challenging I think, but the music I believe would be more appealing for her.
What do you recommend? Thanks. _________________ ceCilLy |

Hi CN here - I'm typing this at Detroit airport, partway through the tour! I would suggest that if a student is using Celebration Series 6 that Connections 5 would be a good starting point. As you say, the rhythmic language is different and takes a little getting used to.
Hope this helps... |
